LCL History and Community of Lansing:
The Lansing Community Library was first established in
July 2000, as a Reading Room of the Tompkins County Public Library.
First
known as the Lansing Community Library Center, the library has
been an all volunteer organization since its inception. Community
interest and demand led to rapid expansion in the library’s
collection and programs. Following a significant capital campaign,
major expansion and renovation of the original school-house building
was completed in January 2006. In March 2008, LCL received a Library
Charter from New York State, and the name was changed to reflect
its status as an independent library. Today, the Lansing Community
Library is part of the Finger Lakes Library System.
Lansing is an upstate town of approximately 10,500 in the heart
of the Finger Lakes Region of New York. The population is drawn
from a mix of rural and small communities. Primary employment is
in farming, local industry and business, and area colleges and
universities.
