Early
in 1999, a group of Lansing residents saw that many of our young
people and the not-so-young among us were hungry
for reading and learning materials and had little or no access
to major library resources in the area. These residents launched
a project that led to the establishment of the Lansing Community
Library Center (LCLC).
In response to community interest, they organized
a Friends of Lansing Community Library Center, and the Friends
quickly began raising funds and accepting donations. The old Lansing
Town Hall was secured as a site and with a little work, LCLC opened
its doors in July 2001.
Since then, LCLC's growth has been dramatic and continues
daily. In July 2004, for example, over 1,600 patrons borrowed 2,300
items, compared to the 200 items borrowed by a handful of patrons
in July 2001 when LCLC first opened. LCLC owns 90% of the materials
we hold, and donations of new and current materials continues through
the generosity of area residents.
If you would like to donate materials (books, videos,
DVDs, etc.) to the library, please call us at: 533-4939.
